Cor Leonis
  • 2008 Moone-Tsai Cor Leonis Cabernet Sauvignon (Sold Out)

This expressive Cabernet opens with tightly layered aromas of ripe black currant and rich leather. The intensity is matched in the mouth, as 22 months of aging in 100% new French oak integrates seamlessly with the wine's creamy, yet powerful tannins. Concentrated flavors of sweet pipe smoke, dark fruit, and allspice sustain throughout the extensive finish. This wine will continue to evolve in the bottle for many years.

In addition to our Coombsville site, the grapes that produced this singular wine were sourced from a vineyard on the Valley's famed Pritchard Hill. Dominating factors in this growing region are the rocky, volcanic soils and the characteristic warm, dry days of the mid and late growing season, both of which forge a distinct taste of place in the grapes and resulting wines. The western-facing vineyard is situated above the fog line, meaning the entire vineyard bathes in sunshine from sunrise to sunset throughout the growing season.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2008 Moone-Tsai Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Sold Out)

This hugely expressive wine entices with its aromas of tobacco and ripe boysenberry. 22 months of aging in 80% new French oak augments the wine's density and substantive, yet finely grained tannins, while richly layered flavors of red berries, coffee and black cherry coat the mouth throughout the lengthy finish. This is an outgoing, powerful wine.

Much of this Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from a vineyard in Coombsville, an area of southeast Napa Valley where soils are characterized by a unique blend of red volcanic soils and clay. The vineyard is planted on a gently sloping plateau, and the comparatively temperate climate of the area, versus the warmer territory up valley, serves to lengthen the growing season. The grapes are allowed to achieve full physiological ripeness without the pressure of heat extremes common in warmer areas, and low vigor soils throughout the vineyard create small, dense clusters. The resulting wine is opulent and expressive.

Napa Valley Chardonnay
  • 2009 Moone-Tsai Napa Valley Chardonnay (Sold Out)

Gorgeous and concentrated, the nose of this straw-gold Chardonnay opens with aromas of honeyed Asian pear, light caramel, and crème brûlée. The weighty, creamy palate is balanced beautifully by a fresh acidity, and flavors of golden apple and cream soda linger long into the finish. Careful use of oak frames, rather than overwhelms, the elegance of this wine.

Bald Mountain, a neighbor of Mount Veeder, is situated in the Mayacamas Mountains on the western border of the Napa Valley. The south-facing vineyard sits at nearly 1600 feet above sea level, and offers stunning views of both the Sonoma and Napa Valleys, as well as of Marin's Mt. Tamalpais to the south. Cool sunshine is abundant throughout the growing season, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while varietal character evolves completely.

Howell Mountain Hillside Blend
  • 2008 Moone-Tsai Howell Mountain Hillside Blend (Sold Out)

A lusciously ripe nose of bright cherry and dried herbs introduces this stunning and seductive wine. The dense, concentrated mouth evolves with savory flavors of peppered spice and inky black fruit, while its massive structure hints at the wine's hillside origins. The contribution of 22-months of aging in 60% new French oak is well integrated and layered throughout the wine's considerable length. This is a wine that will seductively reveal itself each time you visit your glass.

The grapes that made this wine were grown in an east-facing hillside Howell Mountain vineyard perched 2100 feet above the Napa Valley floor. The terraced vineyard is planted on an extreme slope, producing thick-skinned clusters capable of creating a wine with intensity, structure, elegance, and weight.
